Gorakhpur: A Class 5 student was injured after four motorcycle-borne youths allegedly hurled a stone at a school van while overtaking it in the Gulriha area of Gorakhpur. The stone shattered the van’s side window, and the girl was injured by the broken glass.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon near Kartahia Chauraha when the van was carrying students towards Mandir Bazar. The driver, Subhash Prasad, a resident of Bahja, told police that he was transporting children from Excellence Academy Bargadahin as usual when four youths riding a Pulsar motorcycle approached from behind and attempted to overtake the vehicle.
According to the complaint, the youths threw a stone at the van during the overtaking manoeuvre. The impact broke the side window, injuring the fifth-grade student sitting inside. When Prasad objected to their conduct, the youths allegedly abused him and threatened to kill him before fleeing the spot on their motorcycle.
Prasad subsequently approached the police and sought action against the accused. A case has been registered on the basis of his complaint, and an investigation is underway.
CCTV Footage Examined to Identify Suspects
Bhatahat outpost in-charge Madan Mohan Mishra said CCTV footage from cameras installed around the incident site had been examined. Police have reportedly found some leads and are attempting to identify the motorcycle-borne youths.
The investigation is continuing, and further details regarding the identities of the accused and the condition of the injured student are awaited.
Elderly Couple Allegedly Forced to Spend Night Locked in Room
In a separate incident in a village under the Barhalganj police station area, an elderly couple allegedly spent the night locked inside a room after their son created a disturbance at home.
The elderly man submitted a complaint to the police, alleging that his middle son frequently quarrelled with and assaulted his parents. According to the complaint, the son created a ruckus on Wednesday night, forcing the couple to retreat into a room and remain locked inside throughout the night.
The following morning, the accused allegedly returned with bricks and stones and attempted to attack his parents. When the younger son intervened to protect them, he too was allegedly subjected to a life-threatening assault.
The family members said they managed to escape and reach the Barhalganj police station, where the elderly couple submitted a complaint against their middle son. Police action in the matter is awaited.
